What inspired us to start 828 Cash Buyers?

I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. As a teenager I had bought a lawn mower and trailer and started mowing grass for some elderly ladies at my church. After college and 10 years or so in the corporate world, I had the itch again. I loved the idea of rentals because I don’t necessarily trade my time for money so that’s where I started but to make the numbers work I had to buy properties in rough conditions. After dabbling with rentals, I ended up getting a real estate license, but being an agent was very hard schedule-wise with young kids. Flipping houses was never the main goal but I soon realized it was a good fit for me as I already had contractors and a network of people from my rentals and agency background.

I love the little mini-economy I get to create. I get to help people out of often difficult situations and bring these houses back to life. I focus on houses at or below the median price to help put affordable clean homes on the market for new homeowners or tenants and help with the affordability. At the same time, I get to supply jobs to my painters, plumbers, electricians, handymen etc.

What’s your favorite part about working directly with sellers?

We get to problem solve and create win-win solutions. We enjoy getting to know people in the community and be a resource for them. It sometimes can be difficult, because a lot of the calls we get are due to some sort of struggle. This can be a death in the family, a home damaged by a storm or a tenant, or financial hardship. If we can help them out in these times it is extremely rewarding for us to make a small positive impact.

What do you love most about helping homeowners in this community?

Homeownership is the biggest key to financial success and well-being. We are slowly becoming a renter nation and the middle-class in America is dwindling. The more safe affordable housing we can create, the more we can help support that middle class. Every time we take a home that isn’t livable and bring it back to life, we positively impact our community. We focus on homes at or below the median home value so that we can create housing that is attainable. Many of the homeowners buying these homes are first time homeowners and the financial impact it has for them to be able to afford a home in this area is significant.
